Football Recap: Sweetwater Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Caiden Ortiz and Jose Quintero + How To Watch

After flying high against Comanche last Friday, Sweetwater came back down to earth. The Mustangs fell 27-20 to the Clyde Bulldogs on Friday. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Sweetwater's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jose Quintero, who picked up 210 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Caiden Ortiz, who threw for 308 yards and a pair of TDs. The Mustangs are 2-1 when Quintero posts two or more receiving touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise.

Sweetwater's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. As for Clyde, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sweetwater will square off against Breckenridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Clyde, they will take on Jim Ned at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 36.4 points per game this season.
