Basketball Recap: Flagstaff Takes a Loss

Flagstaff came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 68-44 to the Prescott Badgers. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-17.

When it comes to explaining why Flagstaff lost, don't look at Tyler Troxler. Despite the final result, he went 5-for-8 on his way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Harrison Fritsch, who posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Flagstaff smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Prescott's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zane Gaul, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Gaul is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Uriah Tenette, who put up 20 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Flagstaff's defeat dropped their record down to 14-12. As for Prescott, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-5.

Flagstaff didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-39 loss against Coconino on the 12th. As for Prescott, they have also already played their next matchup, a 91-39 victory against Mingus on the 11th.
