The Raiders score 21 unanswered points to swing momentum, take down Spartans for a second straight time.

No. 10 St. Thomas Aquinas at No. 18 De La Salle opener is one of the 10 best in the country.

Two national juggernauts put on an offensive show in the first half, before the defenses flexed their respective muscle.

No. 10 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had just a little more to down No. 18 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) 24-14 in one of the most highly anticipated matchups of high school football's opening weekend on ESPNU Friday night.

An exciting first half saw De La Salle take a 7-0 lead in the first minute of action after a 57-yard run from Shamar Garrett set up a two yard touchdown run by James Coby. Garrett finished a monster first half with 13 carries for 167 yards.

St. Thomas Aquinas responded strong.



The Sunshine State powerhouse reeled off 21-unanswered points beginning with an 11-yard touchdown run from sophomore quarterback Zion Turner. The play of the day came on an incredible 71-yard, one-handed juggling touchdown catch by Georgia pledge Marcus Rosemy to put the Raiders up 14-7 late in the first quarter.

Turner had a strong debut, connecting on a 15-yard touchdown to The'andris Freeman for his third and final score of the game.

The Spartans quickly responded with a 43-yard touchdown run from Coby with 9:19 remaining in the half.

For the remaining 33 minutes of action defense was the story, as the two sides combined for a field goal the rest of the way.

The Raiders' stellar defensive effort was led by Florida commit Derek Wingo, who finished with 10 tackles and one sack in the big win.

St. Thomas Aquinas (1-0) returns home to face off against Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) on Aug. 31. De La Salle (0-1) looks to bounce back next week against Central Catholic (Modesto, Calif.) on Aug. 30.

The two powerhouses faced off once before in 2011, a 30-6 Aquinas win in Fort Lauderdale.

Oakland Raiders All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown made an appearance, and even posed with cheerleaders for a photo.
