League recap: Graves County tops Greenwood to extend winning streak

Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A District 1 this week, Graves County beat Greenwood 56-42. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.

Apollo lost to Bowling Green 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Graves County's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Peyton Puckett threw for 197 and 2 touchdowns and Jake Williams had 107 yards receiving. On the ground Cody Crider contributed 191 yards. Crider helped Graves County's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 36 yards.

He was 19-27 with 1 interception.

Crider was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 191 yards on 19 carries as Lance Gregory's team defeated the Gators. Joey Marshall also contributed to the rushing game with 106 yards on the ground.

Graves County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Puckett has thrown for 2,134 yards and 26 touchdowns this season, while Williams has 50 catches for 812 yards.

Vernon Porter of the Christian County is just 74 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Porter has rushed for 926 yards on 140 carries so far this year.

The Eagles led the league in scoring this week by notching 56 points on Greenwood. Crider caught 3 passes for 36 yards in the win.
