Softball Recap: Quitman Takes a Loss

Quitman had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 3-14 to make it four. They lost 15-5 to the Malakoff Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-3 back in March.

Kori Hammond made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Elizabeth Boykin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Malakoff, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-7. Considering they have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Malakoff's side, the team relied heavily on Alabama Anding, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Anding is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Kylie Miller was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Quitman will welcome Grand Saline at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Malakoff, they will challenge Mineola at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Yellowjackets have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
