Downey is 2-8 against Gahr since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Vikings will head out to face off against the Gladiators at 3:15 p.m. Downey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Downey fell victim to Warren and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 7-0 to the Bears. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.
Giana Castillo-Flores spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Gahr didn't have quite enough to beat La Mirada on Thursday and fell 2-1. The Gladiators have struggled against the Matadores recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Bella Gonzalez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Gahr saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayleigh Allen, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Downey's loss dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Gahr, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Downey hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Gahr struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Downey came out on top in a nail-biter against Gahr in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
