Softball Recap: King George Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

King George entered their tilt with James Monroe on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Yellow Jackets. That's more bragging rights for the Foxes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kelsea Minter was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Headley, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Kallie Slovack was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

King George's record now sits at 7-5. As for James Monroe, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, King George will welcome Mechanicsville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for James Monroe, they will head out on the road to take on Maggie Walker at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. James Monroe's pitchers better be ready for this one: Maggie Walker has averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
