Basketball Recap: Fairview Comes Up Short

After flying high against Skyline last Tuesday, Fairview came back down to earth. The Fairview Knights took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monarch Coyotes on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Coyotes: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the defeat, Fairview saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Chloe Hickory went 7-for-15 to rack up 17 points and five steals. Hickory is becoming a predictor of Fairview's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 5-2 (and 6-7 when she doesn't).

Monarch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sienna Williams led the charge by dropping a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Williams has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 28 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ginger Milot, who posted 12 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Fairview's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Monarch, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairview will challenge Northglenn at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Monarch, they will face off against Riverdale Ridge at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Riverdale Ridge sitting on seven straight victories and Monarch on four.
