Basketball Game Preview: Mitchell Kernels vs. Huron Tigers

Mitchell and Huron are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Mitchell Kernels will welcome the Huron Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell will be strutting in after a win while Huron will be coming in after a loss.

Last Friday, Mitchell didn't have too much trouble with Yankton as they won 54-35. Given the Kernels' advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Bucks/Gazelles are ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Huron was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 54-53 heartbreaker at the hands of Harrisburg.

Mitchell's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Huron, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Mitchell came out on top in a nail-biter against Huron when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 44-41. Will Mitchell repeat their success, or does Huron have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
