The New Oxford Colonials will venture away from home to take on the Spring Grove Rockets at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Spring Grove took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on New Oxford, who comes in off a win.
While New Oxford didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They had just enough and edged out Eastern York 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Colonials in their matchups with the Golden Knights: they've now won four in a row.
Alex Brown was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carter Wagaman, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Spring Grove didn't have quite enough to beat Dallastown on Wednesday and fell 4-3.
Abrum Dull put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
New Oxford's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.9 runs this season. As for Spring Grove, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 3-2-1.
Spring Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Oxford has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. It's a different story for Spring Grove, though, as they've only averaged .352. Will they be able to contain New Oxford's hitters?
New Oxford came out on top in a nail-biter against Spring Grove in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 13-11. Will the Colonials repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
