Basketball Recap: Russell Takes a Loss

Russell lost against Boyd County back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Russell Red Devils took a blow against the Boyd County Lions, falling 88-52. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Lions are ranked 39th).

Despite the loss, Russell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caleb Rimmer went 8 of 15 to rack up 19 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ryder Burgess, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 12 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Russell and nudges their season record down to 11-11. As for Boyd County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a massive bump to their 20-8 record this season.

Looking ahead, Russell will face off against Raceland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Russell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season. Boyd County has already played their next contest (against Fleming County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
