Softball Recap: Branham Victorious

While Branham's victory against Westmont wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Branham narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Westmont 5-3. The victory continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won five in a row.

Taylor Bugliarello spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Sydney Short was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaslene Soliz, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Branham's record is now 6-7. As for Westmont, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Branham and Westmont could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Branham (ranked 358th) will meet Archbishop Mitty (ranked 62nd) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Westmont will face off against Notre Dame at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday down 199 places (295 vs. 96).
