Basketball Recap: Rashyd Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rocky Mount Prep over Tarboro

Rocky Mount Prep lost against Tarboro back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars fell 77-70 to the Tarboro Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 441st, while the Vikings are ranked 121st).

Rocky Mount Prep lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rashyd Johnson, who posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Saveion Wall, who had 15 points.

Rocky Mount Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Tarboro, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Rocky Mount Prep will welcome Southeast Halifax at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rocky Mount Prep is facing Southeast Halifax at the right time seeing as Southeast Halifax is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Tarboro, they will square off against North East Carolina Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tarboro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully North East Carolina Prep likes a good challenge.
