Basketball Recap: Drew Gore's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sandoval over Grayville

Sandoval was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 75-60 fall against the Grayville Bison. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blackhawks of the 86-64 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Sandoval lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Drew Gore, who went 8 of 17 en route to 19 points and five rebounds. The game was Gore's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trayton Adams, who posted ten points along with seven steals and six boards.

Grayville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zach Leavens led the charge by putting up 29 points. Leavens continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Jake Hosman was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 19 boards.

Sandoval now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Grayville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing North Clay/Clay City the next time they take the court. Grayville will head out to face North Clay/Clay City at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, while Sandoval will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
