Basketball Recap: Tywan Williamson Key Part of a Team Effort in Hornets Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fort White, Lafayette was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They secured a 68-62 W over the Branford Buccaneers. For the Hornets, this counts as revenge for the 48-47 win the Buccaneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Lafayette's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tywan Williamson led the charge by going 8 for 18 on his way to 24 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Williamson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Murphy, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Despite the loss, Branford still got an impressive performance from Anthony Washington, who went 11 of 24 on his way to 30 points along with seven boards and three steals. Marty Shuler was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Lafayette's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Branford, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Lafayette wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-39 defeat against Union County on the 9th. As for Branford, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-50 win against Aucilla Christian on the 10th.
