Williamsville North hasn't had much luck against Lancaster recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will face off against the Legends at 6:00 p.m. Williamsville North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Williamsville North took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against North Tonawanda, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Spartans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lumberjacks on Saturday, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since April 22nd.
Williamsville North got a great performance from Claire VanCise as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. VanCise has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brooke Minnuto was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Lancaster came tearing into Saturday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Legends have won six matches by more than ten runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Brennah DeWald, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Haley Lerner was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Lancaster's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Williamsville North, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-5.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Williamsville North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Lancaster struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Williamsville North couldn't quite finish off Lancaster in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 8-6. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
