East Rowan gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Concord Spiders with a sharp 26-0 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row dating back to last season.
Keaton Walker and Mason Phelps were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Walker pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Phelps tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Walker scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Phelps went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The dominant performance also gave Phelps a new career-high in hits (three).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harrison Ailshie, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Nathan Collins, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
East Rowan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .696. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Concord only posted an OBP of .167.
