Football Recap: Lewisburg Takes a Loss

Lewisburg extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-6. They lost 52-31 to the Hernando Tigers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 8, 2021, but that streak is no more.

Despite the loss, Lewisburg saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kaysen Wiggins threw for 327 yards and one TD while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown. The Patriots' leading receiver Cael Riden was Wiggins' top target yet again, picking up 178 receiving yards.

As for Hernando, their win bumped their record up to 6-2. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Hernando got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Asher Lawson out in front who rushed for 64 yards and one score, and also threw for 203 yards on only 19 passes. Another player making a difference was Jack Wilkey, who rushed for 67 yards and one TD.

Coming up, Lewisburg will challenge Tupelo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Wave will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hernando, they will face off against DeSoto Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 924 yards in their previous games.
