Recap: Decatur Golden Gators vs. Kentridge Chargers

After a string of three wins, the Decatur Golden Gators's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They received a tough blow as they fell 61-47 to Kentridge. Decatur was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Kentridge apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Despite the loss, Decatur saw an underclassman step up: Leilah Mulivai-Tobin scored 12 points along with three steals. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamairah Allen, who scored two points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Jayla Keowla was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds for Kentridge. That's the first time this season that Keowla pulled down eight or more rebounds. Sydney Esperanza was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.

Decatur's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Kentridge, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Decatur will take on Bonney Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bonney Lake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Decatur in Washington (Bonney Lake is ranked 16th, while Decatur is ranked 116th). As for Kentridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Bothell at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
