Softball Recap: Newton Local Comes Up Short

Newton Local dropped their record down to 10-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Miami East Vikings, falling 19-3. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2021.

As for Miami East, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-3. Considering they have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Miami East's part, Jacqueline Kadel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kadel has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jorgia Roeth, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Tenly Potter, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Coming up, Newton Local will head out to take on Tri-County North at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Miami East, they will be playing at home against Northmont at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
