Softball Game Preview: Summerville Bears vs. Riverbank Bruins

The Summerville Bears will take on the Riverbank Bruins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Summerville and 11 for Riverbank.

Summerville fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Big Valley Christian on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 6-5.

Madelyn Nikiforuk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Summerville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiersten Lutz, who scored a run while going 1-for-5.

Meanwhile, Riverbank came up short against Bret Harte on Friday and fell 9-4.

Riverbank also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Maya Guzman gave up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. Guzman has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances.

Riverbank's loss dropped their record down to 2-16-1. As for Summerville, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Summerville took their win against Riverbank in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 26-1 score. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bruins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
