Volleyball Recap: Placer Comes Up Short

If Placer was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Del Campo last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hillmen took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roseville Tigers on Tuesday. The Hillmen were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

While Placer ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21.

Despite the loss, Placer saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jesse Hidalgo had six kills and three aces.

Placer's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-3 River Valley and 8-2 Nevada Union (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.6% over those games). As for Roseville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-13.

Placer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against Nevada Union on the 3rd. As for Roseville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against River Valley on the 3rd.
