Basketball Recap: South Mountain Skates Past Maryvale with Ease

It was a proper cat-fight when South Mountain faced off against Maryvale on Thursday. The South Mountain Jaguars took their game with ease, bagging a 58-11 win over the Maryvale Panthers. With the Jaguars ahead 42-6 at the half, the match was all but over already.

South Mountain was led to victory by Asia Martin and Bry'Ann Wiley. Martin dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten steals, while Wiley went 5 of 12 on her way to 10 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards. Martin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Breanna Walters, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

South Mountain was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

The victory got South Mountain back to even at 8-8. As for Maryvale, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-12.

South Mountain will welcome Williams Field at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Maryvale, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 99-7 loss against Cesar Chavez on the 10th.
