Basketball Recap: Chaparral Drops Season-High Score on Ponderosa

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chaparral). They claimed a resounding 66-26 victory over the Ponderosa Mustangs. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Chaparral was led to victory by Lauren Thompson and Maddie Jenkins. Thompson posted six points along with 12 assists and six steals, while Jenkins went 6-for-13 to rack up 19 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Thompson a new career-high in assists. Salem Sherman was another key player, going 5-for-8 en route to 13 points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Chaparral was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Chaparral's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Ponderosa, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season.

Coming up, Chaparral is taking a road trip to square off against Mountain Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ponderosa, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Legend at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Legend has eight straight wins, Ponderosa has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
