Basketball Recap: Walsenburg's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

The third road match was the charm for Walsenburg, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 42-33 win over the Rocky Ford Meloneers on Friday. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Meloneers, too.

Walsenburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christian Maestas, who went 8 for 16 en route to 16 points and six steals. Maestas has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Adrian Vallejos, who posted seven points in addition to nine boards and four steals.

Walsenburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

With the victory, Walsenburg broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4. As for Rocky Ford, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Walsenburg didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-48 loss against Manzanola on the 11th. Rocky Ford has also already played their next match (against Crowley County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
