Volleyball Recap: Grants Takes a Loss

If Grants was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Highland last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates lost 3-0 to the Belen Eagles on Tuesday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-20, 25-15.

Despite the defeat, Grants saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mariah Melonas had 18 digs.

Belen was led to victory by Shyla Rocha and Lydia Hull. Rocha had 15 digs and 12 assists, while Hull had seven digs. Those 12 assists gave Rocha a new career-high.

Grants' loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Belen, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-6.

Grants does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Belen, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Valencia on the 6th.
