Recap: Memorial Day Matadors vs. Claxton Tigers
The Memorial Day Matadors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 14th straight defeat. They lost to Claxton at home by a decisive 55-41 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Memorial Day of the 47-18 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
McKenzie King and Jaylnn Brown certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. King scored 19 points, while Brown scored 17 points. It was the first time this season that Brown scored 15 or more points.
Claxton found their leader in underclassman Jayda Jordan, who scored 29 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Jordan has scored at least a third of Claxton's points. Another player making a difference was Zarriana Ortaviyah harden, who scored 12 points.
Memorial Day's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Claxton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-19.
Memorial Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Claxton, they will head out on the road to face off against Screven County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Claxton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
