Softball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Cardinal Gibbons couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 5-1 to the Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) Stallions on Tuesday. If the Chiefs were looking for revenge after losing 11-0 to the Stallions when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lydia Berent was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Cardinal Gibbons' defeat dropped their record down to 22-6. As for Somerset Academy (Silver Palms), they pushed their record up to 21-6 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home.

Cardinal Gibbons does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Somerset Academy (Silver Palms), they will challenge Coral Springs Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Stallions surely won't give up without a fight.
