Softball Game Preview: Mount View Golden Knights vs. Phelps Hornets

The Mount View Golden Knights are taking a road trip to square off against the Phelps Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.

Mount View easily dispatched Van on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Golden Knights fell just short of Wyoming East by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Golden Knights in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost nine in a row.

Phoebe Dudgeon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Malayah Barnes was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 12 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shianne Belcher, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Phelps was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 24th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Council.

Phelps' loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Mount View, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.

Mount View took their win against Phelps in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 13-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
