Baseball Game Preview: River Bluff Gators vs. Airport Eagles

The River Bluff Gators will take on the Airport Eagles in a tournament on Monday. River Bluff's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Airport's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

River Bluff managed to slip by Dutch Fork the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Gators lost 7-1 to the Silver Foxes on Thursday. The Gators' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Airport came tearing into Thursday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the War Eagles, sneaking past 3-1.

Cash Epps spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Airport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Jeffcoat, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That stolen base was Jeffcoat's first of the season.

River Bluff's defeat dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Airport, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.

River Bluff came out on top in a nail-biter against Airport in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Gators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
