Basketball Recap: West Springfield's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Robinson, West Springfield was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They strolled past the Fairfax Lions with points to spare, taking the game 43-28. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Lions are ranked 223rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Springfield's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-6. As for Fairfax, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-9.

West Springfield will welcome Alexandria City at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fairfax, they are taking a road trip to square off against Lake Braddock at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairfax is facing Lake Braddock at the right time seeing as Lake Braddock is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
