Basketball Recap: Mountain View Takes a Loss

Mountain View lost against South El Monte back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Mountain View Vikings took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South El Monte Eagles. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South El Monte to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eli Lopez, who went 9 for 16 en route to 24 points and seven boards. Those seven rebounds gave Lopez a new career-high. Trinidad Marquez was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Mountain View's defeat dropped their record down to 3-19. As for South El Monte, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-13 record this season.

Mountain View is taking a road trip to take on Marshall at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for South El Monte, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Gabrielino at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gabrielino will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something South El Monte surely won't give up without a fight.
