Wayne had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Nitro Wildcats on Friday as Wayne made off with an 11-2 win. The Pioneers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25, 2024.
Averi Napier was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Lexi Blankenship was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Alexa Bishop was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Wayne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nitro only posted an OBP of .333.
This is the second loss in a row for Nitro and nudges their season record down to 1-2.
Wayne wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-2 loss against Lincoln County on the 22nd. As for Nitro, they have also already played their next matchup, an 8-3 defeat against Pikeville on the 22nd.
