Baseball Recap: John Carroll Comes Up Short

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when John Carroll and Loyola Blakefield meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Patriots fell 13-10 to the Dons. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

John Carroll got a good showing from Pierce Quinn, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Casey Carpenter stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Joey Coudon was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

John Carroll has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-5-2 record this season. As for Loyola Blakefield, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-12.

While John Carroll had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
