Basketball Recap: Douglas Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Douglas ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 75-73 win over the Sahuarita Mustangs. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Francia Rubio was her usual excellent self, going 19-for-37 en route to 49 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Those 49 points gave her a new career-high. Keyra Espinosa was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Douglas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Sahuarita lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jocelyn Ortega, who went 9-for-17 to rack up 23 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Elam, who went 9-for-20 on her way to 18 points and eight rebounds.

Douglas' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points over those games. As for Sahuarita, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.

Douglas wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 48-37 victory against Amphitheater on the 6th. As for Sahuarita, they have also already played their next contest, a 60-12 win against Cholla on the 6th.
