Softball Game Preview: Niles Vikings vs. Sturgis Trojans

The Niles Vikings will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Sturgis Trojans at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Niles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Sturgis' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Last Saturday, Niles made easy work of Leslie and carried off an 8-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Meanwhile, Sturgis was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 20-5 to Dowagiac.

Riley Northrop made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

Sturgis' loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Niles, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Niles took their victory against Sturgis in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 17-2 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
