Volleyball Recap: Portage Warriors vs. Mauston Golden Eagles
Portage was the 3-1 winner over Mauston when they last played one another back in October of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. The Warriors fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
The 2-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Portage lost were decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-22, 22-25, 25-23.
Their offense was headlined by Kate Stevenson and Addison Zuther, who picked up eight kills apiece. Zuther really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 17. Lillian Quirk controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Portage's defeat dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Mauston, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.
Portage has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Tri-County on the 29th. As for Mauston, they will take on Wisconsin Dells at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
