Newport had to endure an 18-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 59-48 victory over the Chewelah Cougars on Wednesday. The Grizzlies' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Newport's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-15. As for Chewelah, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-12.

Newport and Chewelah could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings. Newport (ranked 329th) will meet Priest River (ranked 35th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Newport is out to stop a eight-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season. Meanwhile, Chewelah will take on Northwest Christian School at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday down 198 places (260 vs. 62).
