Basketball Recap: Carterville Lions vs. Chester Yellowjackets
Carterville fought the good fight in their overtime match against Chester on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Chester Yellowjackets 51-47. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maya Toliver, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Emma Rogers, who posted 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Carterville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chester only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Aubrey Coleman was the offensive standout of the game as she went 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points and six boards. Those 14 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillian Diskey, who went 5 of 9 en route to 15 points and six rebounds.
Carterville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-17. As for Chester, their victory bumped their record up to 9-15.
Carterville has already played their next contest, a 43-33 loss against Massac County on the 4th. As for Chester, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 70-44 defeat against Wesclin on the 3rd.
