Baseball Recap: Mt. Whitney Takes a Loss

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Mt. Whitney nor Redwood made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Pioneers fell just short of the Rangers by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rangers this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-5 defeat two weeks ago.

Jacob Carrasco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Mt. Whitney is 4-1-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 10-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Mt. Whitney saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Genaro Villarreal, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Sawyer Sowers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Mt. Whitney and nudges their season record down to 14-12-1. As for Redwood, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-10.

As of now, neither Mt. Whitney nor the Rangers have any future games scheduled.
