Softball Game Preview: Atlantic Coast Stingrays vs. Matanzas Pirates

The Atlantic Coast Stingrays will head out to face off against the Matanzas Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Atlantic Coast 2.9, Matanzas 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Atlantic Coast fell victim to Nease and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Stingrays were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Matanzas entered their tilt with Providence School last Tuesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They blew past the Stallions 11-5. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Matanzas got a great performance from LEAH STEVENS as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over 5.1 innings pitched. STEVENS has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on JULIET FOGEL, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of ASHLEY SAMPSELLE, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Matanzas pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Atlantic Coast, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-4.
