Baseball Recap: River City Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but River City ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Wood Wildcats. This was payback for the Raiders, who suffered a 6-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Nick Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

Rodriguez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kamden Wilkes, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Wilkes' first of the season.

River City is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. Wood is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Wood beat River City by a score of 6-5 on Thursday.
