Softball Recap: Grandview Takes a Loss

Grandview had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-7-2 to make it four. They came up short against the Selah Vikings, falling 28-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Greyhounds of the 17-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Grandview saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Tovar, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Selah, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Selah's side, Avery Brewer was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Brewer has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Ellie Urlacher was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and six RBI while going 5-for-5. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Kylie Colton, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Selah beat Grandview by a score of 18-4 later that day.
