Recap: Wingfield Falcons vs. Velma Jackson Falcons
This season hasn't been kind to the Wingfield Falcons, who are still winless after their 11th contest. They fell to Velma Jackson 54-49. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wingfield in their matchups with Velma Jackson: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyler Arrington, who scored 18 points. Arrington hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Martavius Bennett, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Wingfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Velma Jackson racked up nine assists.
J'Ashton Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Velma Jackson, scoring 18 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Jamarquez Davis, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Wingfield's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-11. As for Velma Jackson, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Wingfield's road trip will continue as they head out to face Moss Point at 3:00 p.m. on December 26th. Velma Jackson will be home for the holidays to greet St. Andrew's Episcopal at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Andrew's Episcopal has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 7.
