It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Highland had no problem doing just that on Friday. They managed a 21-17 win over the Cerritos Dons. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Justin Wyatt Jr. was his usual excellent self, rushing for 55 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also throwing for 106 yards on six of 17 attempts. He has become a key player for Highland: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 3-4 otherwise. Demond Blanchard got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Highland wouldn't let Cerritos keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Kane Perez was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.
Highland's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those good results were due in large part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.6 points per game. As for Cerritos, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-3 record.
Highland will challenge Burbank at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burbank knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Highland likes a good challenge. Cerritos does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
