Lejeune lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Southside, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Devil Pups put the hurt on the Seahawks with a sharp 17-6 win on Monday. The Devil Pups' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Grady Mahaffey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Lejeune's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 0-9 when he doesn't). Mahaffey was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Lejeune let Evan Velez and Jacob Orozco run wild. Velez went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Orozco went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jayce Bamba, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Lejeune kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 1.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.

With the victory, Lejeune broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-10. As for Southside, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Lejeune will face off against Northside - Pinetown at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southside, they will challenge East Carteret at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mariners will roll in looking for their 23rd straight win, something the Seahawks surely won't give up without a fight.
