Baseball Recap: Benzie Central Has No Trouble Against Onekama

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bear Lake, Benzie Central was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Onekama Portagers 15-2. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Lorin McNeil made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Benzie Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-7-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Tyler Brooks was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Benzie Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Ewing, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

The win got Benzie Central back to even at 8-8-1. As for Onekama, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benzie Central will face off against Traverse City West at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Onekama, they will venture away from home to face off against Mason County Eastern at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
