Baseball Recap: Wellborn Comes Up Short

Wellborn had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 13-14 to make it four. They fell just short of the Randolph County Tigers by a score of 6-4. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 8-2.

Wellborn saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack Pressley, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

As for Randolph County, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

On Randolph County's side, Dalton Spivey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. Spivey also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Tigers are 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-14 otherwise.

At the plate, Rhett Huddleston was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Randolph County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-15 when he doesn't). Kameron Parmer was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Wellborn is taking a road trip to take on Spring Garden at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Wellborn will need to watch out since Spring Garden has now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Randolph County, they will host Handley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Handley will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
