Softball Recap: Great Crossing Takes a Loss

Great Crossing fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lafayette on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Generals by a score of 4-3. Great Crossing was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lafayette apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Brenna Parker spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Ellie Hoover was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashtyn Holbrook, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Great Crossing has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Lafayette, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-6.

Coming up, Great Crossing will welcome Eastern at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Great Crossing are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lafayette, they will square off against Lexington Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
