Baseball Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Mount Abram Roadrunners

The Dirigo Cougars will take on the Mount Abram Roadrunners at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Monday just wasn't the day for Dirigo's offense. They lost 6-0 to Gray-New Gloucester on Monday. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Dirigo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Crosby, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Hudson Lufkin also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Mount Abram got the win against Mountain Valley on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-6. Considering the Roadrunners have won three games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brennan Mitchell made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Walker Wolfe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Killian Pillsbury, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Mount Abram's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Dirigo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
